The Junior Zoo Adventure
Do you have young, budding animal enthusiasts living in your home? Are your kids full of energy and love being outdoors? Then here’s the perfect opportunity for your child to get up close to and work with our animals.
This Summer, children aged 8 to 14, can spend 1 or 2 days learning what it takes to be a zoo keeper. From making enrichment toys, feeding animals and handling reptiles, to preparing tea parties for the monkeys!
Children enrolled will take part in the following activities:
Activities for a One Day Adventure:
- Meeting various species of animal
- Preparing and offering tiger and monkey enrichment
- Penguin and zebra feeding
- Reptile handling
- Enrichment task
Activities for a Two Day Adventure:
- Meeting various species of animal
- Preparing and offering tiger, leopard and monkey enrichment
- Penguin, tiger and zebra feeding
- Reptile handling
- Raven training
- Pasture management
- Designing a bug hotel
- Rhesus macaque training demonstration
- Enrichment task
All the above activities are subject to change on the day, weather and animal dependent.
Dates:
Our Junior Zoo Adventure will run for a total of 12 days, 9.00am - 4.00pm. You can choose whether your child comes for just 1 day, or 2 consecutive days. Dates are as follows:
One Day Zoo Adventure Dates:
- Mon 28th July
- Wed 30th July
- Mon 11th August
- Wed 13th August
- Tues 26th August
- Thurs 28th August
Two Day Zoo Adventure Dates:
- Mon 21st and Tues 22nd July
- Tues 5th and Wed 6th August
- Mon 18th and Tues 19th August
Children are to be dropped off between 9.00am and 9.15am and collected at 4.00pm each day they attend. Start time is 9.15am sharp.
Fees (per child)
Cost for one day adventure @ £100 per child
Cost for two day adventure @ £180 per child
We can take a maximum of 10 children per day
If we do not exceed 5 children on either the one or two day Adventure days, we will unfortunately need to reschedule your booking to another date to fill the spaces**
Upon confirmation, a £20.00 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your child’s place. The remaining balance is to be paid no more than 7 days prior to your date(s) chosen once we have confirmed it is going ahead. An email will be sent to you with the bank details and reference to use.
Cancellation Policy:
**If we need to rerrange your child’s place due to the lack of attendance in numbers, we will be in touch immediately with a selection of other dates
If you cannot attend any of the other dates offered or you cancel your child’s place, you will not receive a refund of any payments made so far and will not be required to pay any further balance that is due.
What your child will need to bring with them:
Packed lunch and any snacks required during the day
Drinks bottle – we will fill this up during the day
Please have your child wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. No shorts, skirts, sandals, heels, open top shoes – full length trousers/jeans/leggings required, along with warm clothing as they will be outside for the majority of the day
Footwear – trainers or boots are fine. Please bring waterproofs/wellies if the weather looks bad – there will be an area where your child can leave their bags
Spare change of clothes just in case and spare bag for any soiled clothes
A small empty cardboard box (shoebox size or smaller) or plastic bottle for them to arrange their enrichment inside
Please Note:
Phones/cameras are NOT permitted around the zoo
All children attending must be able to follow instructions at all times - failure to do so will result in us asking for you to come and collect them
Your child must have a valid tetanus vaccination
All our staff are DBS checked and first aid trained
Any personal details shared is for the information of Heythrop Zoological Gardens LTD only and will be destroyed after 6 months from the date your child has attended the event. We will not keep any personal details on file after this point.
Sadly, due to the layout of the zoo, we cannot allow wheelchairs. Participants with disabilities are advised to contact Heythrop Zoological Gardens before booking; we will do our best to accommodate you
With consent, we will take photos on the day of the children and send them to everyone afterwards via a WeTransfer link for you to download. These photos will be kept on file unless we are requested not to. This is optional, as laid out in the Information and Consent form which will be sent to you
